THE MOVE 5X NBA Playoffs 5-11-1980 LA-Philly @ Spectrum
THE MOVE. NBA Basketball, Playoff finals Lakers @ Sixers May 11, 1980, 4th quarter The game was becoming a rebounding game. The best place to photograph a rebounding game from is up above so that you can see full expressions on faces and bodies positioning for the ball. So during the timeout, I raced upstairs to the catwalk and set up over the Sixer basket with a Nikkor 200mm f2.0 ED lens on a motorized Nikon FM. (Handheld) Julius Erving got the ball on one side of the key and laid it up on the other side of the key. The crowd went bananas. This was undoubtedly one of the greatest moves in pro basketball. Magic was so stunned he asked Michael Cooper "Should we ask him to do it again?". They played this move over and over from the floor. However you really see how long Julius was in the air from this angle. If you've watched ABA Basketball you'd know this was a walk in the park for Julius Erving. This picture was published as a four picture sequence in The New York Times. However, there is a fifth picture to the sequence (from the beginning) which is availible upon request. This is a limited edition print.
